Burn Fat and Gain Muscle – 3 Sexy Tips

A lot of people want to burn fat and gain muscle so they can look hot and sexy.

The truth is, you can burn fat and gain muscle at the same time, but not quite the way the infomercials might have you think you can. You will not build muscle or burn fat in 20 minutes 2 times per week with 1 piece of “miracle” abdominal equipment.

If you are going to lose fat and build muscle at the same time, it is important you understand that you will not be able to add large quantities of muscle while on a fat loss program.

You can burn fat and gain muscle while exercise, but you will not look like a bodybuilder while doing so.

BURN FAT GAIN MUSCLE TIP #1: Total body resistance training

If you are going to strength train while on a fat loss program, total body strength training is a great way to build muscle while losing fat.

By doing total body strength training workouts 2-3 times per week, you will be able to add muscle all over your body while increasing your metabolism at the same time.

Not only should you do total body workouts to gain muscle and lose fat, but you should do it in a circuit training structure. This means that you do one exercise, rest 30 seconds, then do another, and so on from there. This will increase the intensity of your exercise session and will be help to increase your active and resting metabolism!

BURN FAT GAIN MUSCLE TIP #2: The right diet for the right body.

This is where your body will get the nutrients its needs to burn fat and gain muscle. If you eat healthy foods such as good quality protein, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats, you are going to be supplying your body with what it needs to burn fat and build muscle.

Not only do you want to eat these foods, but you want to do it in the right portions at the right time! Small portions 4-6 times per day with about 2-3 hours between each meal is a great structure for meal frequency to help you build muscle and burn fat.

BURN FAT GAIN MUSCLE TIP #3: Interval training instead of “same speed” cardio.

This is a great way to burn fat while working each muscle very hard. Interval training consists of using both high and low intensities during a cardio session for a set amount of time.

You can do 2 minute slow and then 1 minute fast, then repeat 3-6 times. You will want to add a 5 minute warm up before and a 5 minute cool down afterwards. By using the high intensity periods, you will find that you are working much harder then before! This is what will help you increase your metabolism while you burn fat and build muscle.

Interval training is pretty intense, so be sure to check with a doctor before doing so.

So in conclusion, a great way to burn fat and build muscle is to have the right diet, use total body strength training, and replace the normal “same speed” cardio with interval training.

Train hard and good luck!

Contact Lenses Money Saving Shopping Tips

All correcting contact lenses must have a valid prescription from an ophthalmologist or optometrist. Contact lens wearers are usually surprised and happy with the level of comfort that lenses provide. You’ll want to take simple precautions to make any lens purchase safe and effective.

Among the many kinds of contact lenses you can buy are: novelty, colored, crazy, Halloween, special effects, theatrical, costume, scary, glow in the dark, wild eyes, mirrored, black, white, and red. With a contact lens prescription in hand, it’s possible to buy your contact lenses from stores, the Internet, over the phone, or by mail.

Soft lenses also come as disposable products, that is, used once and discarded, or as planned-replacement lenses. There are differences in the water content and shape of the lens between different brands. If you live an active lifestyle, NIGHT & DAY breathable lenses will allow you 30 hours of continuous wear.

Soft lenses have the added benefit in that soft lenses aren’t as likely as rigid lenses to pop out or get foreign material like dust underneath. Contacts provide for excellent peripheral vision for sports, driving, safety, and performing. Newer soft lens materials include silicone-hydrogels to provide more oxygen to your eyes.

Bifocal correction is possible with both soft and rigid lenses. You can mark rigid lenses to show which lens is for which eye; they don’t rip or tear, so they’re easy to handle. Rigid gas permeable lenses tend to be less expensive over the life of the lens since they last longer than soft lenses.

Disposable lenses don’t come with instructions for cleaning and disinfecting, while those labeled specifically for planned replacement do. In some models, each lens corrects for near and distance vision and in others, one lens is for near vision, and the other is for distance.

When you place your order make sure your lenses are available and not out of stock, because you’ll need them now. Get a feel for how the retailer handles customer service calls; in case you have a problem after your order arrives. There are many good contact lens retailers now on the Internet making their lenses available at a good discount for prescription and non-prescription lenses.

When you place your contact lens order, request the manufacturer’s written patient information for your contact lenses; it’ll give you important risk and benefit information as well as instructions for use. Ask about prices at your doctor’s office when you have your eye examination, or during a follow-up visit after you get your prescription. If you have an insurance plan, the insurance plan’s seller’s prices may or may not be better than what you can find elsewhere; this should be just one option when you’re shopping for lenses.

Check out how long the online supplier has been in business before you buy. Before you buy online, check to see if there are any testimonials at the online supplier’s website. Check to see if you have a health insurance plan that includes vision coverage.
Getting a proper fit is essential; contact lenses that are poorly fitted can lead to eyesores, eye inflammation, and eye abrasions. Be aware that extended-wear (overnight) contact lenses – rigid or soft – increase the risk of corneal ulcers, which are infection-caused eruptions on the cornea that can lead to blindness; symptoms include vision changes, eye redness, eye discomfort or pain, and excessive tearing. When the eyes are open, tears carry adequate oxygen to the cornea to keep it healthy, but during sleep, the eye produces fewer tears, causing the cornea to swell.

To be sure your eyes remain healthy you shouldn’t order lenses with a prescription that’s expired or stock up on lenses right before the prescription is about to expire; it’s much safer to be re-checked by your eye doctor. Microorganisms may be present in distilled water, so always use commercial sterile saline solutions, if you plan to use enzyme tablets in water for disinfections. Always throw away disposable lenses after the recommended wearing period.

If you’re looking for cheap contact lenses, you may find that cheap materials or other ways of cutting costs will affect the quality you’ll want for your precious eyes. No matter which lenses your doctor prescribes, be sure to ask for written instructions and follow them carefully. Shopping for contacts online will save you a lot of money; contact lenses are deeply discounted.

Astigmatism and Toric Lenses — The Condition And The Solution

November 30, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

Astigmatism is quite a common condition caused by irregularities in the cornea or lens of the eye, and distorts the image on the retina. Those having a slight blurred vision are not even aware that they have astigmatism. In the case of more severe astigmatism, everything is blurry at a distance, and it becomes impossible to ignore the condition. People who suffer from astigmatism can have their vision improved by the usage of toric lenses.

Usually, astigmatism is a hereditary condition, where the shape of the eye is irregular. The normal spherical shape of the cornea, or the lens, of the eye is more oblong – football ball like. Astigmatism may accompany Myopia (nearsightedness) or Hyperopia (farsightedness). Astigmatism can usually be corrected with toric contact lenses among other methods, such as glasses and refractive surgery.

Types Of Astigmatism

There are basically two variations of astigmatism – regular astigmatism and irregular astigmatism.

Regular astigmatism is usually easier to correct. In it, the meridians in which the two different curves are, are located 180 degrees apart. In the case of irregular astigmatism, which is more difficult to correct, the two meridians may be more, or less, than 180 degrees apart, or there may be more than two meridians. Correcting this is quite complicated and depends on the extent of irregularity, and the cause behind it.

Toric lenses can easily correct regular astigmatism, whereas irregular astigmatism, being more complicated and difficult to correct, requires custom made contact lenses. Astigmatism, whether slight or severe, should not be ignored, as it not only gives you a blurred vision, it also gives you headaches and eyestrain.

Children too develop astigmatism and are either generally not aware, or do not complain. Nevertheless, it makes their life quite difficult. It is best that you have your child’s eyes tested every year, and if diagnosed with astigmatism, can have this condition corrected with toric contact lenses.

Toric Lenses For Astigmatism

The earlier belief that people with astigmatism could not wear contact lenses, and only Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) contact lenses could correct astigmatism is no longer true. Soft contact lenses that can correct astigmatism are called toric contact lenses, and they can do an equally good job of correcting your, and your child’s, astigmatic vision.

They have a special inbuilt correction that also has correction for either nearsightedness, or farsightedness, depending on your condition. In the past soft toric contact lenses were not available in disposable, frequent replacement, multi-focal, or colored varieties. Today, you have many options available to correct your astigmatism with toric contact lenses, unless you have an especially complicated prescription.

Soft toric contact lenses are made from the same materials regular contact lenses, which are also known as spherical contact lenses, are made from. To take care of astigmatism, and either myopia or hyperopia, toric lenses are created to have two different powers in them with curvatures at different angles.

The normal ‘spherical’ contact lenses have the same power all around, and so it does not matter if the lens rotates in the eye. In the case of toric contact lenses, due to the two different powers, there is a need to keep the lens from rotating, to maintain the best visual acuity. For this, they are ‘ballasted’ by making them heavier at the bottom. This mechanism keeps the lens relatively stable, providing you with crisp vision, when you look around or blink.

The fitting of the soft toric contact lenses will take more time and expertise of your optometrist than for the normal regular contacts. Some eye care practitioners may fit you with high powered spherical soft lenses to correct your mild astigmatism. The results will vary from person to person, and by a trial and error method. It is best to opt for toric contact lenses, even though the cost of fitting, and the cost of the lenses themselves, will be more than the spherical lenses.

Types Of Toric Contact Lenses

When looking for toric contact lenses, you have a choice of color and disposable lenses.

Toric contact lenses are available in many colors that change or enhance your natural eye color. Most colored toric contact lenses are non-disposable conventional contacts, and only some colors are available as disposables.

The four types of colored toric contact lenses are visibility tints, enhancement tints, opaque color tints and light-filtering tints.

Visibility Tints – These are usually with a light blue or green tint. These tints are added to a lens, just to help you see it better if you drop it, or during insertion and removal. The very light tint does not affect your natural eye color.Enhancement Tints – These are translucent but solid tints that are a bit darker than visibility tints. They do affect eye color, as they are meant to enhance the existing color of your eyes, as implied by the name. They intensify your eye color, and produce the best results for people who have light colored eyes.Opaque Color Tints – The deeper opaque tints dramatically change your eye color. They best change your eye color especially if you have dark eyes. The colors include hazel, green, blue, violet, amethyst and gray.Light Filtering Tints – The latest in color toric contact lenses are the ones with light filtering tints. Specially designed for sports use, the light filtering tints enhance certain colors, by muting other colors. They enhance the vision of sportsmen by making the ball stand out against the background, and allow them to see the target more easily.Disposable lenses were designed to be worn for a specific period and then to be disposed of. They are more hygienic than traditional lenses as substances that are found naturally in your tears, like protein, calcium, and lipids, can build up on your lenses, causing discomfort. The alternate to disposable lenses is to clean your conventional toric lenses regularly.

If you are suffering from astigmatism, it is best you visit your optometrist for a fitting of toric contact lenses – the best option available today.

Scientific Explanations for the Differentiated Results of Leukemia Treatments

November 30, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

Leukemia is a malignant disease that originates at the level of the bone marrow. The disease is characterized by an impaired production of blood cells. Leukemia refers to incomplete development of white blood cells, which accumulate at the level of the marrow and inside the bloodstream. The dysfunctional cells multiply at abnormally fast rates, eventually outnumbering their normal, healthy counterparts. Unlike normal cells, replica cells are incomplete and they can’t fulfill their role inside the organism. Furthermore, they affect the body’s production of normal cells, triggering a decrease in the number of white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets.

There are various types of leukemia, each of them following different patterns of progression. Leukemia is also categorized according to the type of blood cells involved in causing the disease. Judging by the type of cells responsible for causing the cancer, leukemia can be myelogenous or lymphocytic. According to the pattern and the rate of evolution of the cancer, leukemia can be either acute or chronic. Acute leukemia has a rapid rate of progression, while chronic leukemia evolves slowly.

The treatment for leukemia involves a series of cancer therapies and prolonged courses of cancer medications. Considering the fact that there is no cure for leukemia in present, the results of the available treatments are fluctuant. Patients’ responsiveness to leukemia treatments and therapies are strongly influenced by age, sex, the type of leukemia, and the promptitude of medical intervention. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment considerably increase the chances of complete recovery.

An interesting aspect of leukemia is that it predominantly affects Caucasian people. Although the disease can occur among people belonging to any ethnical group, leukemia is more common in white people. Furthermore, the complete remission of leukemia is strongly influenced by race. Although leukemia is less likely to occur in non-Caucasians, this category of people is by far less responsive to cancer treatment. Recent studies in the field indicate that non-whites are six times less likely to recover completely after the treatment of leukemia.

These facts suggest that genetic factors have a great contribution to the occurrence and the progression of leukemia. In addition, genetic factors strongly influence patients’ responsiveness to treatment. In order to detect the exact genetic factors responsible for generating differentiated reactions to the treatment of leukemia, medical scientists have conducted various elaborate studies in the last decade.

Medical scientists have discovered that patients with acute myelogenous leukemia who present cytogenic abnormalities tend to respond a lot better to treatment than patients who don’t have these genetic abnormalities. The category of patients with certain cytogenic abnormalities is more likely to achieve complete remission after completing the treatment of leukemia. These abnormalities are very common in white people, thus explaining the racial-differentiated results of cancer treatments and therapies. Medical scientists have linked low responsiveness to leukemia treatments with the presence of 8-21 cytogenic translocation in patients or the absence of any genetic abnormalities. Patients who present the so called inverse 16 cytogenic translocation generally respond a lot better to the treatment of leukemia.

Medical scientists sustain that these findings will not determine pronounced changes in the treatment of leukemia. However, they explain that people with low-responsiveness to common forms of treatment should receive combination treatments in order to achieve complete remission. Scientists believe that in future people diagnosed with leukemia will receive personalized treatments, according to their age, sex and ethnicity.

Aging – It’s All in the Hormones

November 29, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

The old adage “aging gracefully” is relative. What is graceful for some is not for others. I have found that it is very different for men and women. What happens when we age, besides the obvious laugh lines, or as I prefer calling them “wisdom lines”?

Aging for women brings on confidence, self assurance, energy, drive, knowledge about who they are and a higher sex drive. (More women over 40 open up their own business, change careers and/or go back to work)

Aging for men, brings on loss of sex drive, they are content in their jobs, what they’ve attained, so this allows them to feel the need to slow down, their desire to relax is greater which brings on an overall feeling of “contentment” and they don’t feel like trying new things….. and they are wondering what happened to their significant other.

This also coincides with children leaving for college, moving out and the couple that remains are strangers, literally in the night.

What a cosmic joke that this occurs and it’s hormones that truly plays a huge part in this rise and fall (pardon the pun) in the sexes.

As estrogen lowers in women, their testosterone rises (bringing the ambition, drive and libido) where as for men, their testosterone lowers, their estrogen rises and it brings on a sensation of wanting to “settle” down and nurture.

So while men feel the need to slow down, their significant other wants to spread her wings and fly…..so, this scares and intimidates Mr. Slow down…and rather than discussing it, he thinks a younger body and adoration is the answer.

This is a wondrous time for women over 40 and explains why all of a sudden older women are attracted to younger men and vice versa.

Complications arise as you find yourself attracted to the 29 year old in accounting and feel shame, desire and wonder. This desire can many times lead to affairs of the heart and cause anguish and pain, however, that is a choice only you can make, no judging here as unless I have walked in your shoes, I cannot judge!

So, for all you lucky single woman over 40, stop wondering, pondering and just revel in this wonderful explosion of energy, drive and desire….Indulge in what your body and mind needs and that is the adoration and respect that a younger man will give you.

He is enticed, intrigued and wants to learn….something that men in your age group for the most part no longer desire as they’re “content” with what they’ve conquered, learned and now want to wind down in their lazy Boys!

Sports Massage – An Introduction

November 29, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

Many therapists offer Sports Massage on their “Massage Menu” yet few understand what Sports Massage is about. When a client comes in requesting a Sports Massage, some therapists merely react by going in deep. Sports Massage is so much more.

Whilst Sports Massage does have some aims in common with other forms of massage therapy, the usual experience in conventional massage is to aim to restore the normal function when someone is injured. But in sport there is no ‘normal’ and athletes are always looking to improve and gain a competitive edge. Most athletes aim to reach a level of performance they can never achieve.

A Sports Massage therapist has great potential to assist the athlete to become better, rather than merely normal. In striving to be better, the athlete attempts to systematically increase the level of training and thereby subjecting the body to gradual and controlled overuse. This overuse can often create imbalances and problems in the soft tissues, which if ignored may become chronic. Clearly this may hinder the athlete’s performance and/or rate of improvement. Sports Massage can become a key ingredient in an athlete’s success and this is why top competitors incorporate it as an integral part of their training regime.

So what is Sports Massage? McGillicuddy(1) defines Sports Massage as “the specific application of massage techniques, hydrotherapy protocols, range of motion/flexibility protocol and strength-training principles utilized to achieve a specific goal when treating athletes”. He considers that there are three principles that are vital to understanding what type of Sports Massage to apply to an athlete at any given time. These principles are:
 Timing
 Technique and
 Intent

The timing of Sports Massage is related to when the massage is applied, is it pre-event or post-event, during a maintenance period or possibly post-injury when rehabilitation is required. The technique refers to what massage/stretching/strengthening methods the therapists employs to attempt to achieve the intent, the desired outcome.

The intent of pre-event massage is to warm up the muscles and to get blood flowing through the muscles. The massage techniques generally used are petrissage, vibration, percussion, compression, muscle broadening strokes, etc. With post-event massage, the intent is assist in the recovery process by increasing venous and lymphatic circulation to assist with removal of metabolic by-products and thereby decreasing muscle soreness so that the athlete can return to full training faster. The massage techniques would include effleurage, compression, petrissage, passive movements and light stretching. The intent of maintenance massage is to keep the athletes muscles and tissue in optimum condition and is generally scheduled at a regular frequency (be it weekly or fortnightly), closely married to the athlete’s training program.

Thus Sports Massage is not about going deep nor it is learning one technique. The requirement for the therapist is to apply the appropriate treatment at the appropriate time, which takes education, skill and experience.

How to Plan For Your Cosmetic Surgery Recovery

November 29, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

You’ve made the exciting decision to have cosmetic surgery. You’ve selected a cosmetic surgeon who is highly experienced and qualified in the procedure you are going to have and now you’re ready to schedule the big event. What should you do next to make sure your experience is as comfortable and easy as possible? Begin planning for your recovery.

As with any surgery, cosmetic surgery procedures usually require a recovery period of a few days to a few weeks. If you can efficiently plan for this time in advance, it will help make your recovery as worry free and pain free as possible. You can do this by following the steps provided below:

1. Schedule your surgery for a Friday. This will give you an extra two days of recovery before you have to go back to work.

2. Buy at least two weeks worth of groceries and other necessities before your scheduled surgery. The less reasons you have to leave the house while recovering from surgery, the easier your recovery will be. You don’t need the added stress of running errands or moving about in any way. If you are going to have a surgery that requires you to eat soft foods, make sure your grocery list reflects that.

3. Pre-cook meals for yourself and/or your family. If you do not have someone who will be helping cook meals for you or your family, it is a good idea to do this in advance. Then, all you have to do is defrost and heat up your meals.

4. Prepare your bedroom or another comfortable area of your home to be your ideal recovery spot. Whatever your recovery entails (elevating and icing a body part, sleeping in a particular position, etc.) you should set up your recovery area in advance and make sure everything you need is within your reach.

5. Fill your surgery-related prescriptions in advance. You will likely need to take pain medications and/or antibiotics during your recovery. Your surgeon will prescribe these to you in advance and you should fill them at your local pharmacy before your surgery.

6. Plan your transportation to and from the surgery. You will need a friend or loved one to drive you to and from your appointment. Make all the necessary arrangements for this well in advance and avoid unnecessary stress.

7. Decide what you will tell friends and family if you’re not planning on telling them about the surgery. For some patients, cosmetic surgery is a very private decision. If you do not want to tell friends, coworkers or other family members the specifics surrounding your surgery, you can tell them you are having a reconstructive surgery or going on vacation.

8. Ask a friend or family member to stay with you overnight on the day of your surgery. On the very first night following your surgery, you may not be able to easily take care of yourself. For this reason, you should ask someone to stay with you to help prepare ice packs and meals and ensure you take your medications at the appropriate times. If there isn’t anyone available to do this, you can hire a nursing agency for approximately $300 to $500 per day.

Following these simple steps, you can minimize post-operative stress, unneeded activities and concentrate on what important – recovering as quickly as possible so you can begin enjoying the results of your procedure.

What Makes Your Blood Cholesterol High or Low

Your blood cholesterol level is affected not only by what you eat but also by how quickly your body makes LDL-cholesterol and disposes of it. In fact, your body makes all the cholesterol it needs, and it is not necessary to take in any additional cholesterol from the foods you eat.

People with heart disease or those who are at high risk for developing it typically have too much LDL-cholesterol in their blood. Many factors help determine whether your LDL-cholesterol level is high or low. The following factors are the most important.

Your blood cholesterol level is affected not only by what you eat but also by how quickly your body makes LDL-cholesterol and disposes of it. In fact, your body makes all the cholesterol it needs, and it is not necessary to take in any additional cholesterol from the foods you eat.
Patients with heart disease or those who are at high risk for developing it typically have too much LDL-cholesterol in their blood. Many factors help determine whether your LDL-cholesterol level is high or low. The following factors are the most important.

Heredity. Your genes influence how high your LDL-cholesterol is by affecting how fast LDL is made and removed from the blood. One specific form of inherited high cholesterol that affects 1 in 500 people is familial hypercholesterolemia, which often leads to early heart disease. But even if you do not have a specific genetic form of high cholesterol, genes play a role in influencing your LDL-cholesterol level.

What you eat. Two main nutrients in the foods you eat make your LDL-cholesterol level go up: saturated fat, a type of fat found mostly in foods that come from animals; and cholesterol, which comes only from animal products. Saturated fat raises your LDL-cholesterol level more than anything else in the diet. Eating too much saturated fat and cholesterol is the main reason for high levels of cholesterol and a high rate of heart attacks in the United States. Reducing the amount of saturated fat and cholesterol you eat is a very important step in reducing your blood cholesterol levels.

Weight. Excess weight tends to increase your LDL-cholesterol level. If you are overweight and have a high LDL-cholesterol level, losing weight may help you lower it. Weight loss also helps to lower triglycerides and raise HDL.

Physical activity/exercise. Regular physical activity may lower LDL-cholesterol and raise HDL-cholesterol levels.

Age and sex. Before menopause, women usually have total cholesterol levels that are lower than those of men the same age. As women and men get older, their blood cholesterol levels rise until about 60 to 65 years of age. In women, menopause often causes an increase in their LDL-cholesterol and a decrease in their HDL- cholesterol level, and after the age of 50, women often have higher total cholesterol levels than men of the same age.

Alcohol. Alcohol intake increases HDL-cholesterol but does not lower LDL-cholesterol. Doctors don’t know for certain whether alcohol also reduces the risk of heart disease. Drinking too much alcohol can damage the liver and heart muscle, lead to high blood pressure, and raise triglycerides. Because of the risks, alcoholic beverages should not be used as a way to prevent heart disease.

Stress. Stress over the long term has been shown in several studies to raise blood cholesterol levels. One way that stress may do this is by affecting your habits. For example, when some people are under stress, they console themselves by eating fatty foods. The saturated fat and cholesterol in these foods contribute to higher levels of blood cholesterol.

Your Brain is Voracious- Tips For Feeding and Optimizing the Beast

November 28, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Uncategorized

Your brain is a very demanding organ, with it’s own somewhat selective dietary requirements. So, it stands to reason that your diet can make a great deal of difference in how you think, not to mention your cognitive responses and general overall health. Eat smarter, not harder.

Please, start your day out with a good hearty breakfast. I’m too busy in the morning, I don’t have time for breakfast. The brain needs a good steady supply of glucose early in the day for optimal performance and if you find yourself skipping breakfast, you can find yourself feeling sluggish and dull at work or wherever. Whole wheat toast is fast and easy to make, it’s a great source of complex carbohydrates, and the fiber alone has been found to help cognitive functions over time. Add a glass of orange juice, or other juice, and you’ve just added valuable natural anti oxidants along with your readily available morning brain boost. Beans and toast are said to be an ultimate brainy breakfast, but I know what you’re thinking, not my first choice.

As we get older, we can find our memory slipping a bit, it’s only natural right? Well, studies have shown that foods rich in choline, vital for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain, and foods rich in antioxidants such as beta-carotene and vitamins C, D and E, are essential to overall optimal brain function. The antioxidants mop up the free radicals that constantly attack healthy cell walls, serving to aid in cognitive functions. Also, low levels of acetylcholine are also associated with Alzheimer’s disease, and some studies suggest that increasing choline intake through supplements or diet may slow age-related memory loss.

What is an example of a brainy lunch? How about on omelet and a green salad? Eggs are very rich in choline and a green salad is loaded with antioxidants. Better yet, pop open a can of sardines, a super food loaded with protein and crucial Omega 3 fatty acids. Grilled salmon or Ahi tuna are also very high in Omega 3 and probably more palatable than sardines. Finish your lunch with a yogurt dessert, and you should be alert and ready to finish off the day. That’s because yogurt contains the amino acid tyrosine, needed for the production of the neurotransmitters dopamine and noradrenalin, among others. Studies by military scientists indicate that tyrosine becomes depleted when we are under stress and that supplementing your intake can improve alertness and memory while fighting fatigue.

A mid afternoon snack is a great idea. Try something like a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter with a small cup of yogurt, I love Yoplait blueberry, or a glass of low fat milk. It’ll take the edge off of your hunger and add some quick glucose to the brain. Here is an ultimate brain and energy food; a sliced banana spread with peanut butter. It’s a nearly nutritionally complete food. Try to limit highly processed snack foods which contain trans-fatty acids. These are not only bad for the waistline, but more and more studies are showing that these trans-fatty acids may be involved in a whole large list of serious mental disorders, ADHD and dyslexia among them.

And here’s a suggestion, top off your supper with some strawberries and blueberries, when available. These berries are nutritional powerhouses, filled with antioxidants and essential fruit sugars. Besides, they taste good!

The gist of this article is to choose delicious foods which are rich in the nutrients that are universally agreed upon as vital for brain health as well as starting our day out with a hearty breakfast. The foods mentioned above are a large part of my diet, following a near fatal illness three years ago, and work for me.

There’s lots of info and recipes available for all tastes and following these guidelines will most certainly make a difference in how you think and feel for life. Thanks for reading.

I specialize in general interest short article content, especially for my own content sites. I love to write and I look forward to contributing many many more submissions, hoping people will find some useful or entertaining info. healthcontentsite.com healthcontentsite.com
