Limited Mobility, How to Improve Your Activity Level by Self Motivation
If you don’t use it, you lose it. And nowhere is that more true than when it comes to your activity level. If you don’t use your muscles, your muscle mass decreases. You won’t be able to do the things you used to, not run as fast, not jump as high. If you have had a period of inactivity, for instance after surgery, the older you are, the longer it seems to take to recuperate.
Your natural physical build has something to do with it also. Some people by nature are just must more athletic than others.
My 80 year old mother in law could skip rope 80 times when she was 80, without stopping. Very few of us are that lucky. We really don’t need to be able to do that. But we do need to stay active, and sometimes that is very hard to do.
Sometimes you have to force yourselves to be active. It can be very hard to do when everything hurts. And that is where subliminal power comes in. One of the most helpful self improvement techniques, it can give your subconscious those little pushes to get active. How does it work? While I work on my computer, the screen will flash a very short message telling me to walk, or be active. It does this 700 times per hour. I work on my computer on average 5 hours per day, so 3500 times per day my subconscious receives those messages.
I am speaking from experience. Having had numerous surgeries on my legs, damage is done and the circulation in my legs is bad. The most important thing for me to do is keep moving. Yet sometimes that is the thing you don’t want to do.
You have to motivate yourself. There is a lot of skepticism about subliminal messaging. It is used by lots of athletes; they use it to motivate themselves, to improve their golf game. I use it to increase my activity level, to motivate myself, and it works.
The program on my computer has my own messages on it. After I started using it, within a week I noticed that my activity level had increased by at least 300 %. And it has been increasing ever since. Now, three months later, I am a lot more active, my legs are in better condition and because of that, I am even more active. I won’t ever be able to skip rope 80 times, let alone 40 times, but that is not my goal. Anyone who has limited physical ability and knows it is their own fear or willpower that is holding them back, give subliminal messaging a try. I’m glad I did. To learn more about this program visit:
Prescription Addiction
Always Use As Directed
Modern medicines include a wide range of drugs that have been developed and are continuously being developed to save lives and make pain more bearable to handle. Before they can be used and marketed in public, they undergo a series of tests and approval for certain, specific uses. Many drugs, such as strong pain killers, are only available when prescribed by a licensed doctor.
Medical supervision is a must as prescribed medicines can cause harm when not used correctly. When prescribed with these kinds of drugs, you must not put yourself at risk by taking doses that are more than what was prescribed, taking them when they should not be, or combining them with other wrong substances such as alcohol or other drugs.
Commonly Abused Prescription Drugs
All prescription drugs tend to be harmful when used incorrectly. There, however, three types of drugs that are most commonly abused:
- Opioid based painkillers such as codeine, Vicodin, Oxycontin, and Demerol.
- Central Nervous System (CNS) depressants such as Nembutal, Xanax and Valium, which are usually used to treat conditions like panic attacks, sleep disorders, and stress.
- Stimulants like Dexedrine and Ritalin, which are typically used to treat depression, narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
Harmful Effects
The abuse or misuse of prescription drugs can lead to dangerous reactions and prescription addiction. The extended use of opioid based pain killers and CNS depressants over a longer period of time (from 3 weeks to months) can cause physical dependence to these drugs. High doses of these drugs can lead to many problems such as:
- Compulsive, uncontrolled use
- Paranoia
- Dangerously high body temperature
- Slowed or irregular heartbeat
- Coma and even death
- other minor effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, extreme sweating, and so on, may also set in
Stopping the use of prescription use will lead to withdrawal symptoms that might be difficult to handle on your own. The longer the period of use, the more difficult the symptoms can become. Also, the more serious the prescription addiction, the greater the withdrawal symptoms can get. Getting over prescription addiction and going through the series of withdrawal symptoms (especially during the first few days) can be unbearable. But having the right treatment method and plan would definitely make things a lot easier to handle. The Different Massage Techniques Available at a Spa
Massage is one of the most natural methods of healing and stress relief. While many people choose to reduce stress with prescription medications, many others visit a day spa weekly in order to relax after a hard week at work. Additionally, massage can also be very healing. Many athletes undergo massage treatment for sore muscles, twisted ankles, and torn ligaments.
All day spas offer massage treatment. However, not all offer a wide variety of massage types. This article explains the different massage techniques available at different spas:
Swedish Massage
A Swedish massage is meant to relieve muscle tension and loosen sore joints. It is performed over the entire body. There are five major strokes used in Swedish massage. The first is effleurage, or stroking. The second is petrissage. This is a grabbing and lifting of the muscles. The third is friction. This is where the massage therapist massages the thickest parts of muscles by working their fingers and thumbs in a circular motion. The fourth is tapotement, or tapping and chopping strokes. The final major stroke used in Swedish massage is vibration. This is where the massage therapist flattens their fingers on a muscle and then shakes rapidly in order to create a vibration.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that targets the parts of muscle that lie far below the surface. All muscles in the human body have many layers, and the lower levels cannot be reached by normal massage techniques. Deep tissue massage therapists use their fingers, thumbs, and, occasionally, elbows to reach the deepest layers of muscle. Deep tissue massage generally involves quite a bit of pressure and friction.
Neuromuscular Massage
Neuromuscular massage is a form of deep tissue massage that is used to increase the blood flow in individual muscles, release pressure on nerves, and reduce pain. Neuromuscular massage therapists search for knots in muscle that can cause pain not only in that individual muscle but also in other unrelated parts of the body.
Sports Massage
A sports massage is not only used to relieve pain — it is commonly used to prepare muscles prior to activity. Using techniques comparable to that of a Swedish massage, a sports massage can prepare muscles for activity and heighten an athlete’s energy. After activity, a sports massage can cool muscles and prevent injury.
Rolfing
Rolfing is a massage technique designed to restore a person’s posture. Rolfing massage therapists use their hands and elbows to massage the connective tissue that surrounds muscles. The end result is a noticeable improvement in posture.
Hellerwork
Hellerwork is a massage technique that expands on the posture improvement offered through Rolfing. In addition to improving posture, Hellerwork uses techniques that educate a person’s body on breaking bad posture habits. Many claim that persons who have undergone the eleven-week Helenwork session have even noticed an extension of their height.
Lomi Lomi
Lomi Lomi is the most common stress-relieving massage technique. Lomi Lomi massage therapists use large, broad strokes, often with hands, forearms, and elbows. Often, Lomi Lomi massage therapists say a prayer before beginning the massage that addresses the type of healing the patient is hoping for.
Thai Massage
Thai massage is different European massage techniques in that it focuses on circulation and pressure points. Thai massage promotes internal health and muscle flexibility through peripheral stimulation. Thai massage therapists use their hands, elbows, knees and feet.
Shiatsu
A Shiatsu massage consists of a finger-pressure technique that utilizes acupuncture points. Shiatsu massage is performed with the client in a reclined position. The massage therapist then applies varying degrees of pressure with their fingers, thumbs, palms, elbows or knees. Shiatsu treatment relaxes the body while stimulating blood circulation and lymphatic flow.
The massage techniques listed above are the most common forms of massage offered at day spas. However, there are many other massage techniques, and many go by alternate names. To determine what massage technique is best for your needs, discuss what you’re looking for in your massage treatment with your spa of choice.

Empowerment and Self-Control – What it Really Takes to get Control of your Weight
Chant the following each day, several times.
They are mantras that will save your life -
- The choice to do nothing is still a choice and yields nothing.
- I am responsible for my body. If I don’t take responsibility, who will?
- I make choices daily as to how I’m going to fuel my body.
- I will STAY aware
- Choice IS control
Control is what you gain once you realize that no one will take care of you. You might think its ok to live with our grown children when we are infirm, but we both know, you and I, that this isn’t the case. We would regret imposing on them, at the prime of their lives. We would resent being infirm and therefore feel sorry for ourselves.
There is no guarantee against illness, but you and I also know that the eating patterns that brought you to this place are going to make you very ill eventually, if you don’t change them starting now. You are in the process of growing toward self-healing. And what a wondrous process that is!
You must decide to do that yourself.
It sounds like a negative realization. On the contrary, it will be one of the most freeing moments of wisdom you will ever feel.
BECAUSE – once you realize that your health is up to you and you alone, you are free to move toward healing.
Control gives us the freedom to write our own destiny and dreams. That which we desire, control gives us a shot at. We want to be healthy and only WE ourselves can achieve that goal. No one can take that step to make us healthier. So by developing control functions, we better equip ourselves for the task of whipping our poor bodies into shape.
How many times have you shaken your fist at the heavens, bemoaning your “lack of willpower”? Well, you don’t have to do that any longer. We’re going to toss the word “willpower” right out on its ear.
Take a moment and examine the word “willpower”. It’s meaning is clear. It is the power of your will. Many people have a problem narrowing down the word “will”. Will can mean many things, but when it all boils down, it is desire, wish, choice and determination. Your “will” is quite simply…CHOICE.
You don’t NEED willpower to lose weight. What you NEED is to make a choice.
Once you’ve done that, simply bow to the incredible wisdom of that choice.
