Osteoarthritis in dogs is a common and difficult disorder to manage. It includes an entire family of disorders including hip dysplasia. Up to 30 percent of dogs and cats are affected by arthritis. A dog suffering from arthritis shows signs like difficulty in walking and playing, lethargy, limping, difficulty in getting up when lying down, pain when touched and aversion to any contacts.

Animals usually have a very high pain threshold. When the pain becomes excruciating they exhibit signs of discomfort. Treatment must then be given without delay. A large number of dogs respond well to glucosamine, especially larger dog breeds. It soothes the affected joints of a dog and makes it active once again. Glucosamine is also used as a preventive measure to ensure that your dog has healthy bone joints.

Glucosamine that is normally present in the cartilage and synovial fluid is a normal constituent of the dog’s glycosaminoglycans that is a part of the connective tissues in its body. Recent studies have shown that glucosamine when swallowed by your pet has several benefits. It is anti-inflammatory and has joint regeneration properties. It is especially used to treat hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis.

It is also very important to give the right kind of drug to your dog to make it active and lively. There are six key points to remember before you purchase any glucosamine product for your dog. They are: type of glucosamine (sulfate, chloride or 2KCL), quality of the ingredients, method of delivery (pills or liquid), amount of glucosamine needed per day, additional ingredients besides glucosamine and cost. A suitable dosage for your dog would be 750mg of hydrochloride or sulfate per 50 pounds of weight. Don’t choose 2KCl and NaCl forms of glucosamine as they are not so effective. A liquid dosage is always better to use than pills.

Drug Rehab or Addiction Treatment – What Is the Difference?

Recently a topic of conversation centered on whether there is a difference between a drug rehab and an addiction treatment center. As surprised as people were at the question, it made all of us realize those individuals without knowledge of the addiction treatment business or who have not been in addiction treatment themselves, might be easily confused.

There really is no difference between the two as far as the terminology. When a person mentions drug rehab, they are really referring to a drug rehabilitation program, which is the same as an addiction treatment program, alcohol treatment program or chemical dependency program. All of the above are designed to treat drug addiction and alcoholism, with the only difference resting in the actual services provided, population treated and the philosophy of the program.

Differences in Addiction Treatment Services

While they all generally have residential treatment services in common, it does not mean that each has been licensed to provide detox (detoxification services), partial hospitalization or outpatient treatment. The type of services a drug rehab or addiction treatment center provides is strictly up to the owner and operator and each service must be licensed by the state where the center is located. It suffices to say that the greater the continuum of care, the more likely the center is to be able to meet the patient’s needs.

To ensure one receives quality care when joining an addiction treatment program, a person should contact a drug rehab facility accredited by JCAHO ( jointcommission.org” target=”_blank The Joint Commission of Accreditation for Health Organizations), a standard-bearer in health-care facilities, which assures the consumer that the accredited facility has achieved and continually maintains clinical and professional practices which are superior in its specialized field of treatment.

There are numerous sites about drug rehab facilities on the web and you should evaluate their credentials carefully. RecoveryConnection.org refers people to recoveryconnection.org/find_drug_rehab/” target=”_blank addiction treatment centers accredited by JCAHO.

Discover Prostate Health Dietary Supplements That Help Enhance Prostate Health

Medical research has allowed the creation of many highly effective prostate health dietary supplements. Such natural prostate supplements are especially effective as aids in the fight to prevent prostate cancer or to help an enlarged prostate gland and its symptoms.

Research has shown that men can help maintain prostate health by eating Brazil nuts, pomegranate juice, scallions, garlic, onions, and, of course, lycopene from tomatoes.

Once men have tired of those foods, however, then they could well be ready to try some of the mens health prostate supplements. Men can obtain cancer-fighting chemicals in tablet form by using prostate health dietary supplements.

Medical research has uncovered the cancer-fighting chemicals in the foods that can help to prevent prostate cancer. Such research has permitted the creation of natural prostate supplements. Many of those supplements contain the important mineral selenium.

Selenium can strengthen the immune system and facilitate the functioning of the thyroid. It can also activate certain enzymes. When mens health prostate supplements contain selenium, then they too activate certain enzymes.

Of course men do not need to take natural prostate supplements in order to prevent prostate cancer or an enlarged prostate if they ate an optimal diet rich in tuna, eggs, wheat germ, chicken, liver, garlic and Brazil nuts. However, we all know that the vast majority of us do not always eat a perfect diet, especially in today’s hectic, fast-paced world.

Therefore, using mens health prostate supplements serves to ensure the ability of the body to obtain a sufficient amount of nutrients that promote optimal prostate health.

Men interested in fighting-off the risk of prostate cancer need to take-in a sufficient amount of phytochemicals. Naturally-occurring phytochemicals can be found in broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables. Yet phytochemicals have also been added to many prostate health dietary supplements.

When natural health prostate supplements contain phytochemicals, then they may allow the body to mount a three-pronged attack against prostate complications. For example, phytochemicals may interrupt the cell cycle, thus slowing the growth of the prostate cancer cells. Phytochemicals can prevent the formation of blood vessels, thus essentially starving the cancer cells.

As can be seen from the above information, mens health prostate supplements offer all males a powerful tool in the fight to prevent prostate cancer. Still the effectiveness of such supplements becomes even greater, when they provide men with a way to obtain important antioxidants. Such antioxidants help protect prostate health by fighting free radical damage.

Two other cancer-fighting substances that are found in foods have also been added to some natural prostate supplements. One is omega-3 fats, such as those found in fish. Omega-3 fats help to prevent the migration of prostate tumors. Still, the consumer of health products must be careful not to get mens health prostate supplements that contain omega-6 fats. Those fats have been shown to aid the migration of prostate cancer cells into the bone marrow.

Finally, no article about the prevention of prostate cancer would be complete without the mention of Vitamin D. When metabolized, that vitamin becomes calcitriol, which can slow the growth of prostate cancer cells. Vitamin D can be obtained by exposure to sunshine, or by eating foods fortified in it.

Still, not everyone has the time and ability to spend a part of each day soaking in sunshine. Not everyone wants to drink a glass of milk a day. That then explains why Vitamin D has been added to many prostate health dietary supplements. Likewise, that explains why every man over 40 should consider using such supplements.

If you suffer from an enlarged prostate gland, then you should look for natural prostate supplements that contain anti-inflammatory ingredients that will help reduce the inflammation that is causing the gland to enlarge. Two of the best such ingredients are: Saw Palmetto and Beta Sitosterol.

Weight Loss, Exercise, and Bodybuilding Tips – Keeping Your Body-Fat Low: Part 6 of 10

Do you know that while you work out the muscles are being torn down verses being built up? This sounds illogical doesn’t it? You would think that you are doing the opposite? Well, over time this is true, yet in the short term it is different. This is why I encourage you to eat a balanced diet to replace all the fuel used in the workouts.

There is another area I would like to point out that is just as important as fuel when
it comes to keeping your body fats low and that is don’t under estimate the “Power
of Recuperation.”

Low Body Fat Technique #6: The Power of Recuperation

When I was training for the 1988 Mr. Michigan Bodybuilding Championships I had
the opportunity to workout out with Mr. Universe for a summer. At the time I
thought the more I amount of sets, reps, and time I spent workout would be better.
The less fat I had in my daily diet would make me leaner. Brian (Mr. Universe)
happened to be doing the opposite. He was doing less and getting better results. I
asked him about the amount (not in weight, but in quantity) I was doing in
comparison to what he was doing. He said, “You do not understand the power of
recuperation, do you?” Obviously I did not! He went on to explain to me how
muscles need rest to rejuvenate. The body needs good food to replenish nutrients
lost in working out. He also explained that at some point the body just goes
through the motions or exercises just to satisfy your mind. This is where injuries
and burn out occur.

This sounds good, but doing it was not so easy. I tried his theory. I cut out half the
sets of exercises and half the time spent in the gym. While mentally it was tough, it
was almost immediate that I started noticing the results. My body was getting more
rest periods and rejuvenating. This in turn allowed my body to work more efficiently
by burning off fat and not hard earned muscle. What I realized was that there is a
delicate balance between overtraining and getting the recuperation time your body
needs in order to burn fat. However, it would be safe to say, more is not better.

While this may go against your logic, in the end it is vitally important to rejuvenate
your body with adequate amounts of rest, vitamins, balanced diet, and sleep. Here
are some suggestions on how to go about getting rejuvenated:

1. Put your workout program on a rotation. Certain exercises on certain days.

2. Listen to your body for signs of over doing it like, soreness, restless sleep,
edgy, achy joints.

3. Take a few days off every three months to rejuvenate your mind and body.

4. Get food back in your body with in two hours after a workout.

5. Work smarter not harder. Less in many cases can be more.

The older we get the more important maintaining low body fat levels is. While
exercise and good eating are a must, so is the need for rest.
