A 30 Day Crusade Against Smoking – Day 3 – A Slip Of The Fingers

Bans on public smoking are spreading throughout the world. That suits Eric who is a lifelong non-smoker, nay, ANTI-smoker. For 30 days he will change the world and the habits of current smokers.

Day 3:

Things are getting a little fraught around the house. My wife, basically, refuses to stop smoking. I tell her that she is killing herself and she tells me that what she does is her affair. I then tell her that she is killing me and she tells me that it will happen a lot sooner if I don’t stop going on about it. She is a strong woman and I don’t take threats like that lightly.

A different approach is therefore needed. Softly, softly catchee monkee. The local hardware store has always bee a helpful and resourceful place. Their prices are high and the proprietor has a glass eye which pints in the opposite direction to his real one, but I still like him. He is down to earth and to the point. A visit there has paid dividends.

So it was that my wife reached for her latest cigarette. She had that smug look on her face. She would not be swayed by my mutterings and would never voluntarily admit that I was, in any shape or form, right. I had had 20 years of this attitude.

I was in the other room. As she opened the packet I could hear the “SNAP” of the mousetrap on her fingers. I wasn’t trying to break the bones of course. Drawing blood and inflicting severe pain would have been enough. She squealed and I came running. She was in tears and looked forlorn. There was blood everywhere and she looked distressed indeed.

She beckoned me over and I was very glad to help. I prised off the mousetrap and hugged her. “Help me!” she cried. She pushed me aside as she used her bloodstained hand to collect a stray cigarette from the floor. “Could you light it for me?”

In the last few years there has been an overwhelming increase of interest in Aromatherapy, it seems that people are interest din different ways to improve their life quality, and since the Spa hotels have now become very common a lot of people had the opportunity of experiencing the sensation of Aromatherapy in one way or the other.

Although a lot of people think that Aromatherapy is used mainly to induce a feeling of some sort or an ambiance to a room or space it is used many times in serious and much more medical oriented ways, it has been proved that Aromatherapy can effect a patient condition and in mild conditions even help the patient to a full recovery.

Dating back many years Aromatherapy has been used by many cultures around the world, the latest phase is only another cycle of time in which Aromatherapy is popular once again. The basics of aromatherapy are based in the belief that natural things can help other living organisms, in general you might say that herbs and plants are sharing this planet with us and they also share some of the basic qualities of life with us humans, so it is also possible that the power of plants can be extracted from them to aid and help humans.

Combining different plant odors can stimulate a response in anyone, you do not need to be an expert to know that certain smells are very clearly unpleasant as some others are distinctly calming and relaxing, it is also known that certain smell can be associated with feelings and memories, making the odor much more than a part of a scenery and more an active participant in the effect the environment has on us.

Aromatherapy uses what it calls home therapy by using the oil and the plant extracts to create a relaxing environment, this basic concept is the most common in aromatherapy and is practiced by many around the world, the process of introducing the aroma to the space is usually done by using a burner that has a candle burning which heats an oil or water with some fragrant in it thus making the liquid evaporate. The materials usually used in the home are mostly eucalyptus oil that gives a very unique odor and will also assist many during the winter time, when it has the ability to clear the nose and make breathing a lot easier. Grapefruit oil is also used in the home therapy process and will also produce a lovely smell in the space it is used in, these aromatherapy oils will provide a solid base for relaxation and inner peace, if used correctly and if practiced in the right way the home Aromatherapy procedure can reduce stress levels and increase the harmony and peace in the house.

Aromatherapy is a way we use odors to promote a state of peace and wellness, we can help our bodies and minds relax by introducing certain aromas to our homes, by doing that we will change our behavior and reduce our stress.

Are you or someone you know tired of dealing with the extreme discomfort associated with menopause? Then you might be interested to know that a combination of two popular herbal remedies may be able to provide real relief.

German researchers recently found that a combination of St. John’s wort and black cohosh is “very effective” for easing the psychological and physical symptoms of menopause. Both herbs have been widely used by menopausal women in the past, but this is one of the first studies to prove their effectiveness. St. John’s wort is often used to treat mild depression and black cohosh is a popular menopause symptom remedy.

One of the goals of the German study was to see if the herbal medicines could offer a viable alternative to hormone replacement therapy, which may cause an increased risk of disease. The researchers gave women a supplement containing 1 milligram of triterpene glycosides (an active ingredient in black cohosh) and .25 milligrams of hypericine (an active ingredient in St. John’s wort).

After 4 months the women who took the herbal combination experienced a 50% reduction in menopause symptoms, including sweating and hot flashes. They also experienced significantly less depression than women taking a placebo. In fact, overall depression scores fell by nearly 42% in women taking the herbal medicines.

At the end of the study, over 60% of the women taking the herbal supplement rated the treatment as “good” or “very good” compared to only 25.6% of women taking the placebo. Also, there was no significant difference between the herbal group and the placebo group in terms of side effects reported.

Obviously, if you’re looking for safe, natural menopause relief, a combination of St. John’s wort and black cohosh may be worth considering. Both are widely available in herb and health food stores.

Whey protein is loaded with amino acids and essential protein to provide any consumer with the benefits of gaining strength and stamina by enabling the body to manufacture creatine.

The key element surrounding Protein supplements is that it has a much higher absorption rate than most other supplements. It has proven its weight worth in gold as far as nutritional value goes as well as provides the strength-training individual with an added boost of amino acids necessary for making creatine. That isn’t to say that there isn’t a significant amount of protein and amino acids available in supplements derived from soy, vegetable or meat. It means that whey protein provides a much higher level of protein intake and absorption than eating a block of soy.

Protein supplements are also noted for giving support to the immune system. Bone health, healthy muscles as well as healthy tissues are all benefits to using a whey protein supplement. Athletes from all sectors seem to benefit from Protein supplements as it is considered a large role player in sports health in general.
