Drugs, Vitamins, Pills, Pills, Pills
So many people are on medications that they don’t want to be on, especially older adults. Sometimes these people are resistant to taking vitamins as well because they just don’t want to take another pill. However, there is a big difference between a prescription or over-the-counter drug and a nutritional supplement. We cannot place them into the same category, even though we take them in a similar form.
Nutritionals are natural
First drugs are not natural substances. They are foreign to the body and have their effect by interacting with a normal biological process to change it in some way. Nutritional supplements, on the other hand, are natural products and normal parts of the body’s biology. They contain vitamins and minerals that are required by the body to operate normally. Nutritional supplements just add to the amount of nutrition that we get from our food.
This is also why it is difficult to do scientific studies with nutritional supplements. With a drug, it is easy to give one group of people the drug and another group a placebo (or fake drug pill) and see what happens. But with nutritional supplements you can’t just withhold vitamins and minerals from one group of people, because they are required to survive. Study participants will get some level of the test vitamin from their food, even if it is not enough, and that will interfere with the standard experimental design of the study. In fact, it would be unethical to try and completely eliminate a vitamin from someone’s diet in a scientific study because we know that harm would be done.
Drugs are mostly interferers
Second, drugs usually act by interfering with one of the body’s natural processes in order to have some desired effect. For example, statin drugs, used to lower cholesterol, actually interfere with the normal process that the body uses to manufacture cholesterol – thereby lowering it’s levels in the blood. Most drugs work in a similar way by interfering with some normal function. Alternatively, nutritional supplements boost the amounts of vitamins and minerals so that the body’s biological processes get plenty of the stuff that they need to function optimally. Vitamins and minerals help biological process whereas most drugs interfere with them.
Drugs are potent
Third, drugs are often taken in very small amounts because they are very powerful at interfering with their targets. Nutritional supplements are taken in much larger amounts because they are a part of so many different functions all over the body.
My mother once asked me why vitamin pills had to be so big. After all, her medications were tiny little pills. Well, this is why. Vitamins are typically taken in amounts thousands of times greater than drugs. For example, a good daily dose of vitamin C is in the range of 2,000 milligrams or more while many drugs are taken in the amount of about 0.02 milligrams. Add to that the fact that a good supplement has a large number of different vitamins, minerals and other natural compounds. This forces vitamin pills to get large very quickly. In fact, a quality daily supplement won’t fit into a single reasonably sized capsule.
Drugs have side effects
Finally, many drugs actually reduce the level of natural substances that the body needs. To use statin drugs as an example again, they interfere with the manufacturing of an important substance called CoQ10 at the same time that they interfere with cholesterol manufacturing. This is because cholesterol and CoQ10 are made by the same biological process. CoQ10 is very important in the production of energy in every cell in your body, but especially important in the heart and the brain. In fact, recent studies have suggested that CoQ10 supplementation is beneficial to prevent heart attacks. Unfortunately, many people at risk for heart attacks are taking statin medications, which are lowering CoQ10 in their bodies.
So even though it is sometimes discomforting to pop a handful of medications, please don’t think of your vitamin supplements in the same way. Drugs are treatments for disease. Vitamins are promoters of health.

Forget the Diet – Lose Weight Eating
The foundation to managing your weight and creating a healthy body is rooted in the fact that your body is not intended to consume massive quantities of calories. Notice I said calories as opposed to food. Your body needs food, it just doesn’t need a lot of it at any given time. It thrives on small meals that are healthy and properly balanced.
Eating doesn’t make you overweight, OVEReating makes you gain weight. It is only a habit, nothing more, nothing less. Too many people claim OVEReating is occurring to mask your hidden deep seated psychology problems. I have worked with thousands of people and 9 out of 10 people OVEReat for two reasons. One because they are not paying attention and keep eating and second out of habit. Habits are conditioned behaviors that become unconscious and we do them automatically without evaluation. As a hypnotist and weight loss coach, I have seen people break all kinds of negative habits, like cleaning their plates with little effort. Yes, habits are formed when you are young, but they can be changed. Make a decision that you will not OVEReat for the next 21 days and you will be on your way to losing weight.
To help you break the habit of OVEReating, there are a few things you will want to do. Starting with paying attention to your body. Listen to your stomach, is it slightly hungry, starving or maybe thirsty? The same part of the brain is signaled for both thirst and hunger. Second have a glass of water and wait a few minutes. Third, rate your hunger one famished ten stuffed, eat only when you feel hungry like a two or three on that scale. Forth, STOP eating the second you feel satisfied, forget full, full will make you fat, STOP at satisfied, around a five or six. If you have no idea what I am talking about then cut your meal in half and only eat half of your usual portion. Finally you will need to remind yourself that you don’t require a lot of food. Look at your left fist and remind yourself that this is the size of your stomach. Remember 21 days to break a habit, do it for at least 21 days and see how much weight you have lost.

Have you been waking up after a night’s rest still feeling tired? Do you feel your health energy lack and it is preventing you from carrying out your daily duties and favourite activities?
If that so, you may be suffering from fatigue.
Fatigue is a daily lack of energy that is not relieved by sleep. Someone who are fatigued will feel tired all the time in both mind and body and it can be caused by a number of inter-linked factors. The common causes are stress and unhealthy lifestyle choices such as adopting fad diets to lose weight. Undiagnosed medical conditions could also be another reason for experiencing fatigue.
Stress as a cause fatigue
Someone who are stressed or chronically anxious keep their bodies in overdrive. The constant flooding of adrenaline exhausts the body and fatigue sets in.
A stressful work environment – whether it is excessive noise, boredom or fixed concentration on a repetitive task – can add to a person’s fatique level. Burnout, concerns over one’s job security.
How nutrition impacts energy level
-Meet your basic calories needs
The estimated daily calorie needs for a person who weigh around 55kg is about 2,100 calories to maintain his or her weight and have sufficient energy for carry out moderate activities.
-Get sufficient protein
Protein is necessary for our bodies to rebuild and repair damaged as well as aging body tissue. A person who weighs around 60kg needs about 63kg of protein per day.
-Drink loads of fluids
Around 8 glasses of water a day prevents dehydration which is another factor that causes our energy level to fall. Fatigue is a classic symptom of mild dehydration.

Herbs Good For Diabetes
As diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes, becomes more prevalent in society there is continuing interest in ways to treat the condition. Conventional medical wisdom advocates the use of medication and a change in lifestyle as a way to manage diabetes. A change in lifestyle generally means taking on more exercise and altering eating habits. Altering eating habits include monitoring the types of foods that a person eats, especially fatty foods and carbohydrates. Thus a diabetic is urged to take responsibility, in consultation with a dietitian or doctor, for their diet. As people become more involved with their meal plans interest has grown in the types of supplements and herbs good for diabetes. This article will discuss some of the main herbs that are believed to be useful for diabetics.
This list of herbs can be used as a supplement or in cooking :
Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) leaves are used as a herb or Fenugreek seeds are used as a spice. They can be taken as a supplement or in cooking. In a limited clinical test on humans, Fenugreek was seen to stimulate insulin secretion from the pancreatic cells and could help to lower the blood sugar levels.
Cinnamon or Cassia is a spice that is derived from the bark of the Cinnamon or Cassia tree. It can be used in cooking and is popular in Chinese food. University tests using Cassia (often marketed as cinnamon) on humans show significant lowering of blood glucose levels in those that took higher dosages to the placebo test cases.
Banaba (Lagerstroemia Speciosa) is a tree common in South East Asia. The leaves of the tree are used as a traditional medicine in parts of Indonesia and the Philippines. Tests in Japan and the USA found that the active ingredient in Banaba is Corosolic acid, that has the effect of lowering blood sugar levels.
Ginseng or Asian Ginseng (Panax Ginseng) is a herb that can be added to cooking, taken as a supplement or tincture. Chinese medicine has extolled the power of ginseng as a general cure all and booster of the immune system. It has also been suggested that it can lower glucose levels in blood and lower blood pressure.
Turmeric (Curcuma Longa) is a member of the ginger family Zingiberaceae. The active ingredient in Turmeric is Curcumin. In clinical tests on rats, curcumin was seen to lower glucose levels in rats. Turmeric is used in cooking, especially Indian curries and other cuisine from South East Asia.
Stevia also known as Sweet leaf or Sugar leaf is a shrub found in South and Central America. As the name suggests, it is noted for it’s sweet taste. Extracted Stevia is widely used as a sweetener alternative to sugar in Japan. It has little effective on the blood sugar level so is useful for diabetics.
Neem Tree (Meliaceae Azadirachta) is part of the Mahogany family. Neem leaves are used in Ayurvedic medicine and are thought to reduce blood sugar levels.
Ginkgo Biloba is the extract of leaves taken from the Ginkgo tree. The extract contains flavonoid glycosides that are noted for antioxidant qualities and improving blood circulation, especially to small capillaries. Poor circulation is a common problem for diabetics so this can aid or prevent complications like diabetic neuropathy or diabetic retinopathy occurring.
Indian Kino Tree (Pterocarpus Marsupium) also known as Malabar Kino. The bark of this tree is soaked in water to leave an extract that is used in Ayurvedic medicine. The active ingredient in the Kino tree bark is epicatechin. In clinical tests involving mice, epicatechin was seen to increase the cAMP content in pancreatic islets cells which are responsible for producing insulin.
Bitter Melon (Momordica Charantia) is an edible fruit that is known for it’s bitter taste. It is often used in South East Asian and Indian cooking or made into a tea. In Ayurvedic medicine it is often described as “plant insulin” as it contains a protein similar to that found in bovine insulin. The active ingredient is thought to be p-insulin or polypeptide-p. When extracted from bitter melon and injected into the body it performs like a slow acting animal insulin. It could be used as a source of insulin of Type 1 diabetics with further research into extraction of p-insulin.
It should be remembered that many of the herbs mentioned have undergone little or no clinical testing. Much of the evidence that these herbs work is either anecdotal or has been passed down from ancient medical traditions such as Ayurvedic or Chinese medicine. If you decide to use these herbal remedies, particularly as a supplement. It is advised that you discuss your decision with your doctor and monitor your blood sugar levels closely until you a familiar with the type of effects that the supplement will have on you.

The Truth About Colon Cleansing
As colon cleansing is becoming more popular the controversies abound. From “plaque lining the colon” to the “body cleanses itself” the bottom line is, the truth is in there, somewhere. Let’s find it.
The mucoid plaque that many people are so fond of talking about, and that medical doctors love to dispute, is said to line the colon. It doesn’t. The mucoid plaque lines the small intestine, which is the first 20 or so feet after the stomach and before the five feet of colon. It is here that nutrients are supposed to be assimilated through the intestinal wall into the bloodstream. And when you eat junk food, consume toxins such as drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and pesticides, this is where your body will excrete excess mucus that can build up over time.
It is this excess mucus that starts the process of a mucoid plaque buildup. Many want to deny this by saying they have bowel movements every day. However, everyones blood flows constantly, yet calcium plaque still manages to accumulate along the arterial walls.
As we eat junk food, overeat, or eat while stressed, etc., our bodies constantly excrete excess mucus to protect us from the toxins – either in the food or being manufactured internally through stress. At the same time, if you are eating more protein than the size of your palm, your body cannot digest it all. Don’t think it will digest later, it won’t. This undigested protein will add to the mucus and the process begins. The buildup of mucoid plaque is beginning to line the small intestine.
When you start a colon cleanse, you should choose to eat foods that digest quickly, like plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables along with drinking a lot of water. Then start taking herbs to help break down the plaque. Contained in these herbs will be fiber to soften plaque and herbs to help strengthen your organs and kill or neutralize toxins.
As this process of cleansing starts, the herbs and your body will start working to soften plaque in the small intestine, and begin to move some of the old waste out. This is a slow process that cannot happen in a day or even a week. If it took 20 years to build up, it will take time to eliminate. Plaque is latin for plastic – this stuff isn’t leaving easily.
This process of waste building up in your organs didn’t happen overnight. It didn’t happen in a year. It’s been going on for 10-20 years before we even think about if it really happens. This doesn’t mean we should cleanse for 10 years. But you should also understand that a week or two isn’t going to help much.
A colon cleanse or total body cleanse should continue for perhaps a month. And then perhaps do another cleanse a couple months later. It is hard work to break down this buildup and in order to get rid of it, you want to give it time – time for your body to strengthen, time for the herbs to work and time to soften the old waste.
Some say that the body is capable of cleansing all by itself. If this were true, people wouldn’t end up in the hospital with septic toxemia (their blood is so toxic they are poisoning themselves). Farmers wouldn’t have to protect themselves when working with pesticides. If our body could detox anything it doesn’t need, I should be able to eat cake and cookies every day and not get excess waste, which stores in fat cells and makes them – well – fat.
Yes our organs and body can detox themselves. But we must eat right and give our body the help and nutrition it needs in order to work efficiently. In today’s culture of fast food, stressful lives, degenerative disease and every kind of external pollution, we must do what we can to take care of ourselves. Learn more about cleansing at
Weight Loss with Traditional Foods
Many of us think back fondly to times we cannot possibly remember – times and places when voluptuous, even hefty, women were glorified, when a few extra pounds was a sign of beauty rather than a problem to be dealt with . It is a fact that, even today, there are some societies that have quite a different idea about weight gain than we do – especially for women. And there are quite a few reasons why this sort of thinking might not actually be misguided. For a start, women with a few extra pounds – not obese, mind you, just with some meat on their bones – are more fertile than very thin women. Also, a very thin woman might not be able, in a traditional society, to feed her child adequately. Because human ideas of attractiveness follow necessity, it’s natural that very thin women would not have been considered the most desirable in traditional societies. In fact, it’s only in a society full of excess, such as ours, that thinness becomes the desired goal.
On the other hand, it’s also true that few if any traditional societies had the problem with weight that we do. That’s because the food we eat today – while less nutritious than the food our predecessors ate – is also far more plentiful. To put yourself back in the mindset – and the body type – that typified our ancestors, try following a traditional diet.
It takes a bit of willpower – more than just a bit, actually. But not because you are about to starve yourself or cut out whole food groups. On the contrary – the traditional meals that you will eat are hearty and satisfying. Where the will power comes in, though, is in ignoring most if not all of the food messages that are coming at you through advertising and from the packaged foods in your grocery store. The basic idea is to ignore anything that has a brand name on it. Of course, that’s easier said than done.
So what do you eat, then? Well, if you choose to follow the Medieval Peasant Diet, for example, what you do is to pick a staple food and stick to it, more or less day in and day out. On special occasions, you can vary from your staple diet – for example, you can enjoy a restaurant meal now and then, say once a month or so – but for the most part, you stick to your staple diet.
A medieval peasant in Europe would have lived, for the most part, on a type of stew or porridge whose main ingredient was beans or peas. A pot of this stew was kept on the back of the stove at all times, and added to as needed. The main ingredients of the stew never varied, but sometimes bits of meat of vegetables in season would be added.
And basically, that was it. The medieval peasant would typically eat just one main meal a day, and that would consist of ample helpings of the stew, along with some bread and ale. At other times of the day, people might eat a piece of bread and a mug of ale, or maybe some fruit when it was in season. And once in a while, like on a special feast day or holy day (which occurred rather frequently in Medieval Europe – once or twice a month at least) people would eat – and drink – more than that. There might be roasts of meat, for example, or cakes. But these things were not a part of the day-to-day diet.
On the one hand, the Medieval Peasant Diet would probably not pass muster with today’s nutritionists. It seems a bit low on certain nutrients, such as vitamins that come from fruits and vegetables. We should remember that today’s soil is very depleted compared to soil in the middle ages, so we probably need to eat more fruits and vegetables than they did. That’s something to keep in mind if you want to follow this diet for the long term.
On the other hand, keep in mind that this sort of diet – with local variations – sustained humankind for the vast majority of their history. With the exception of nobility (who, incidentally, were the only people susceptible to modern diseases such as obesity, heart disease, and tooth decay until very recently) this diet kept people healthy – and slim – for millennia.

What Are The Causes Of Acne?
Most acne products do nothing more than waste money. Imagine spending hundreds of dollars on creams and lotions only to find out they didn’t really work or only gave you temporary relief.
Acne, like most other skin problems, exists only as a message that something inside the body isn’t functioning properly. This means acne isn’t really the problem you have to attack. The problem lies elsewhere inside the body which produces symptoms such as acne, blackheads and whiteheads.
To make this idea easy to understand, take for example back pain. Lower back pain shows up as one of the many symptoms of an imbalance of vitamin C. When someone feels this back pain, their first thought may be to use pain killers. This may bring some relief but will never cure the back pain the same way acne creams can never cure acne.
Everyone with acne knows that when you stop using the topical lotions, your acne just keeps coming back just as bad as it did before you used the products but you still use them because you feel there’s no other way and this means a lot of business for the companies that make the lotions.
These products simply try to hide your acne rather than cure it so you must continually rely on their product for any relief. Other problems with most acne products include creating new symptoms you must deal with such as dry skin, itching and peeling.
The only way to cure acne effectively is to fix the internal problem your body has. When you do this, you may find not only your acne, but other problems you have had in the past start to disappear.
So what are the main internal causes of acne? Toxic chemicals from bacteria such as yeast, and waste material that is stuck to your intestines, which is a nice home for these nasty parasites. These chemicals put a burden on the liver whose job it is to remove hormones from the body. When the body can’t get rid of hormones properly they go around the body telling your oil glands to produce and secrete more oil than necessary.
Also, because these chemicals aren’t being removed from the body fast enough, they end up coming out through the skin where they can block pores and irritate the skin. To deal with these two problems you need a method to clean your colon, kill the yeast and remove toxins from your body.
Would you like to learn about a 3 day diet plan that has cured thousands of people around the world of acne?

What You Should Know About Green Tea
There is much information about green tea that is important to know, especially in regards to your health and well-being. One of green tea’s positive benefits is that it contains antioxidants. Antioxidants are chemicals that greatly reduce the rate of particular oxidation reactions in the body. This oxidation process can sometimes be carcinogenic and can release free radicals within your body. Free radicals can cause damage to your body’s cells. Over time, this damage is irreversible and could lead to cancer.
Antioxidants are extremely important, and a diet containing polyphenol antioxidants, which green tea contains, is basically essential for the health of most mammals, and as well they are widely used as ingredients in dietary supplements that are used for health purposes such as preventing cancer and heart disease.
For thousands of years certain cultures have known about the medicinal value of green tea. The most prominent effect of this tea is that it benefits all five of the vital organs, especially that of the heart. Some of green tea’s medicinal qualities include: easing the effects of alcohol, acting as a stimulant, curing blotchiness, quenching thirst, eliminating indigestion, curing beriberi disease, preventing fatigue, as well as improving urinary and brain function.
Green tea has also been considered to be useful for: cognition, stopping certain neurodegenerative illnesses such as Alzheimer’s, preventing and treating cancer, treating arthritis, treating MS, preventing the degradation of cell membranes by neutralizing the spread of free radicals, increases fat oxidation, raises metabolism, lowers LDL cholesterol, preventing lowered T-cells due to HIV, and more. Recently, green tea is being used as a supplement to help people lose weight. Studies have shown that it is a glucose regulator, which means that it slows the rise in blood sugar following a meal.
The most recent notable research on the beneficial properties of green tea to human consumption and health is one that relates the delay of cancer onset with the consumption of green tea. What the study shows is that early stage breast cancer spreads less rapidly in women who have a history of drinking five or more cups of green tea a day, as compared to that who did not drink any green tea.
Considering all of the plentiful and various health benefits and medicinal purposes, it is important to learn about green tea and see if it can have some benefit for you. By acknowledging and understanding the available green tea information, you will be more aware of the positive effects of this product and perhaps be more intrigued to incorporate it and other health products into your diet.

Birth Control Pill and Depression
If you are struggling with depression, or have at one point in your life, it is important to learn more about how the birth control pill may affect your depression. Depending on the type of depression you have, birth control pills can improve it or make it worse.
PMS or Menstrual related depression can be improved by using the birth control pill. Depression that only sets on during “that time of the month” is caused by hormonal changes in your body. Those rapid changes can be “mellowed” by taking the pill. Many women with menstrual or PMS related depression see an improvement in the way the feel after being on the pill for a couple of months.
If you constantly suffer from depression, it is probably not hormone related, at least not related to the hormonal changes associated with your period. Taking the pill in this case can make things worse instead of helping relief your depression. Many women feel increased depression after being on the pill. There are also some who don’t start feeling depressed until they start taking the birth control pill. Usually using an alternate form of birth control in addition to some natural or prescription medication will get you back out of depression.
Different types of birth control pills seem to affect depression in different ways. In general pills with higher levels of progesterone are most likely to worsen your depression.
If you are currently suffering from depression talk to your health care professional about treatment options prior to starting on the pill. If you are already on an antidepressant, you may want to discuss birth control with your physician to see which option will have the least effect on your mental health and to make sure there isn’t any interaction or reaction with your depression medication.
If you are feeling depressed and think it may be caused at least in part by your birth control pill, make an appointment with your physician to discuss how the two of you can get you back out of depression and feeling better.
