Hair Loss Symptoms – Temporary Or Permanent Baldness
Everyone has approximately 5 million hairs on their body. Most of them are located on your head. Individual hairs usually grow for about six years, then they fall out and new ones grow in. For millions of people, damage to the hair follicles under the skin may inhibit new growth causing full or partial baldness. Hair loss can be temporary, or it can be permanent, depending on its underlying cause.
You may notice several symptoms that may signal a loss of hair. Maybe your hair isn’t as thick as it used to be. Thinning may be occurring all over your head (and even over your entire body). This is most common sign of hair loss in women. Or you may notice an abundance of hair on your clothes or in your comb or brush after grooming. In severe cases, heavy shedding may occur, or clumps of hair may fall out without a noticeable reason.
In the most cases, balding is an inherited type of hair loss called androgenetic alopecia. Men with this condition usually notice the hair on the front hairline and forehead and on top of the head growing thinner or disappearing altogether as they get older, eventually, only leaving the hair around their ears, the sides, and back of the head. Women with this condition typically have gradual thinning throughout the scalp, with the most at the crown of the head.
Other causes of hair loss oftentimes feature a distinct pattern. For example, conditions such as trichotillomania (compulsively pulling at the hair) feature large balding areas surrounded by hair growth areas where hair has been pulled out, while alopecia areata, in which the immune system actually attacks hair follicles results in obvious patches of hair loss. Stress and certain medications too can cause clumps of hair to fall out in certain areas.
Hormone changes too — especially several months after childbirth — can cause excessive shedding, leaving hair volume thinner than it had been during pregnancy and early motherhood, but not thinner than it was prior to getting pregnant.
Why is the pattern of hair loss symptoms so important? It can be used as a guide for physicians to figure out if there is an underlying cause for your hair loss and how to best treat it. While genetic hair loss can’t be cured, many other afflictions that could be causing your severe hair loss can – and should – be! See you doctor immediately if you notice any of these symptoms suddenly or no apparent reason:
· Excessive hair shedding.
· Severe thinning over a short period of time.
· Clumps of hair falling out.

Are You A Victim Of Occupational Eczema?
Skin diseases that are caused by contact with chemicals related to your work are called occupational skin diseases.
In order to diagnose these types of skin diseases, you will have to work closely with your dermatologist. You will need to pinpoint the condition first appearance and what triggers make it worse.
Occupational skin diseases may be furthered by irritants you are using at home. The most common occupational eczema include: allergic contact dermatitis, hives (contact urticaria), and irritant contact dermatitis.
What is allergic contact dermatitis?
Allergic contact dermatitis is not only common but has a huge list of potential suspects behind it. Allergens may be aromatic chemicals, caustic chemicals, metals, organic chemicals, plants, plant extracts or any combination of these. Haptens, simple chemicals that require a protein bond to become an antigen, are the most common culprits.
The immune system is a factor in allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), meaning that people who have weakened immune systems are more susceptible to ACD, which makes age a factor in diagnosis.
Depending on location and chronic qualities, the appearance of ACD varies. Most symptoms include: blisters (of all sizes), cracking, flaking, inflammation, papules, redness, and swelling. Common body areas for manifestation include: ears, face, feet, hands, and neck. Common culprits include:
Adhesives.
Beauty Products, including cosmetics, skin/hair care
Chemicals
Dyes
Jewelry
Latex based products
Plants (and plant derivatives)
Rubber based products
Typically, treatment of ACD includes: identifying the allergen and finding/following ways to avoid it which may include substitution of a different product. Topical medication in the form of corticosteroids will relieve symptoms.
What are Hives (contact urticaria)?
Hives can be caused by either allergens or caustic substances and can attack people with atopic dermatitis very easily. For example, a person who works at a cosmetics counter and is required to wear that product may have more trouble if they have atopic dermatitis. Treatment for this form of occupational eczema is the same as for allergic contact dermatitis.
What is irritant contact dermatitis?
Irritant contact dermatitis is the most common form of occupational eczema and affects exposed areas of skin (arms, face, hands, and neck). It can just bed a reddish patch of chapped skin or it can be as bad as skin ulcers. Itching is extreme and scratching seriously worsens the flare up.
An inherited overactive response to triggers is one cause longer life spans and more severe symptoms in patients with atopic dermatitis. These triggers can be temperature/precipitation, friction, chemical irritants and stress. The number of potential irritants is very large and on the job contact may be with one or more:
Adhesives/glues
Alkalis
Aromatic chemicals
Asphalt
Bacteria
Bathroom cleaning products
Chemical salts
Foods
Fungi
Gases
Glass fibers
Lubricants
Metals
Plants/derivatives
Soaps and detergents
Solvents
Tar
Irritant contact dermatitis is treated the same as allergic contact dermatitis, but the addition of exposure modification and protection are critical, as is educating the workers.
With any form of occupational eczema, it is as important to be aware of possible infections as it is with other forms of dermatitis. This is especially true for people who work in agriculture, food processing, food preparation (restaurants/cafeterias), health care, school systems, and veterinary medicine. The tendency of the skin to get broken open through scratching allows infection to attack your already deprived immune system with ease.
Consultation with a doctor is important for diagnosis. Skin infections, whether bacterial, fungal, or viral can mimic eczema but can be cured and may be contagious; eczema is not. Prompt treatment of these infections can lead to further complications and spread of the infection.
Other Occupational Skin Conditions
Acne: comedogenic products, such as theatrical cosmetics, industrial oils, cooking oils can cause acne. Comedogenic means that the pores are plugged with an oily substance, which becomes apparent through both black and white heads.
Apparel with rubber lining (such as hard hats and rubber straps for carrying tools) may also be comedogenic in some occupations.
Frictional dermatitis: this is caused by repetition in handling of necessary tools for the job. For example, a worker who sews the tags on blue jeans may get frictional dermatitis from the constant movement of the denim against her hands/arms.

Influenza – Its Symptoms and Causes
Know more about Influenza
Influenza better known as the “flu” is an infection of the respiratory tract that can affect millions of people. The influenza virus can be spread from person to person through coughing and sneezing of an infected individual.
Statistics show about 20,000 Americans die from influenza or influenza related pneumonia each year. Pneumonia and influenza are the sixth common cause of death in the United States. Elderly (65 ) make up more than 90% of the 20,000 Americans who die from this illness each year.
A person may contract the influenza virus and not experience any symptoms for a few days. The incubation period for the influenza virus ranges from 1-4 days.
Is there more than one type of Influenza virus?
What is influenza?
There are three different kinds of Influenza viruses: Influenza A, Influenza B, and Influenza C. Influenza A can attack animals and humans, the remaining two (Influenza B and Influenza C) can only attack humans. Influenza C causes a very mild infection and does not provoke epidemics.
When observed through an electron microscope, influenza viruses are figured like filaments or spheres. Immunity to one strain of the influenza virus will not protect you against newly born strains of the virus, which has undergone minor changes or mutations.
The Influenza B and Influenza C virus may infect only human beings while Influenza A may infect several different types of animals. Influenza A virus can sicken many various types of animals, including humans, aquatic mammals, birds, horses, swine, and others.
At times when two different strains of viruses combine in humans or animals, they result in a new unique strain of virus with more immunity. The modern 2004 Influenza Vaccine is made of three strains, which include two strains of influenza A and one strain of influenza B.

The Bird Flu – Is it Really that Scary?
This information was sent to me from Dr. Laibow and are his opinions. But the crux of what he says is that we need not worry so much about Avian Flu. Why? Because we can prevent or treat the Avian Flu easily, and naturally according to Dr. Laibow.
Please remember, though, that this information is not a diagnosis or a
treatment plan. It is educational material intended to help you develop your
own personalized disease prevention or treatment strategy. You might want to
consult a nutritional professional or natural physician to help you
personalize it for you and your family.
The way Avian Flu does its damage to the body is by depleting Vitamin C stores so quickly that the cause of death is fulminate scurvy. This is the same scurvy that killed seamen on long voyages. If we don’t get enough Vitamin C, we get sick or die. Humans cannot make Vitamin C but we need it for a great many vital processes including immune function and vascular integrity. This type of virus, Avian Flu, uses up Vitamin C stores so quickly that the immune system is overwhelmed and the blood vessels loose their structural integrity.
So, Dr. Laibow says that prevention is Vitamin C: lots and lots and lots of Vitamin C. and treatment? Lots and lots and lots of vitamin C.
This is how Dr. Laibow suggests taking the Vitamin C to be sure you are at an immune level that will keep you well:
Vitamin C is not toxic. Under stress (like a viral infection), your need for
Vitamin C is increased. When your body has had enough, your body will tell you
by soft stools or diarrhea. This is not a sign of toxicity: it is a sign that
you have reached “Bowel Tolerance” (BT). Once you get there (and it can be at
1 gram or 20 grams: your body will tell you), cut back to 75% of the dose that
represents BT for you and keep taking that dose EVERY DAY.
Write down each of the 4 daily doses of Vitamin C that you take each day
because you will be increasing your intake gradually until you find the amount
that you need for immune support. This dosage information is important enough
that it could literally save your life so it is worth taking the time to
record this information carefully and stick to the dosing schedule precisely.
If you mess up, don’t quit, but do make your best effort to stick to it.
You will start with 1 gram per dose so, for example, on Day 1, suppose that
you take 1000 mg (= 1 gram) of Vitamin C every 4 hours for a total of 4 grams.
On Day 2, increase the first dose to 2 grams and then take 1 gram for your
other 3 doses. (You will take 4 doses per day). On day 3, take 2 grams for
your first and second doses and 1 gram for the remaining two doses. On Day 3,
you would take 2 grams for the first three doses and 1 gram for the next dose.
You would continue increasing your dosage in that way until your body lets you
know via your GI tract that you’ve reach the level you need. Now multiply that
total daily dose by 0.75 and you’ve got your daily dose.
For example, suppose you reach Bowel Tolerance at 10 doses. Multiply by 0.75
and you now know that you need 7.5 grams of Vitamin C a day for immune system
support. You would do well to take reasonable doses of Vitamins E and A along
with Zinc and reduced L-Glutathione since they work together with Vitamin C.
How much? That depends upon your weight, health, etc. I would also recommend
that you take a good Multivitamin along with the preventive levels of Vitamin
C described above.
And I hope it goes without saying that the more processed foods you eat, the
more chemicals, flavors, preservatives, pesticides, sugar and artificial
sweeteners, in short, the more junk you put into your body, the more acidic
your body will be and the less resistant to viral infection it will be. So now
would be a great time to switch over to a diet rich in fruits, dark and
brightly colored veggies, free range animal protein and organic everything.
Those are food choices that build your immune capacity, not bang it around.
You can assist the body in becoming more alkaline by using Alkalife drops. By using 2 drops in an 8 oz glass of water you create alkaline water and this will affect the pH levels of the body and move it in an alkaline direction. Disease cannot live in an alkaline environment; however it will flourish in an acidic environment. You can learn more about Alkalife and Bicarb-balance at www.drclarkuniversity.org
Children’s doses should be titrated the same way taking the weight of the
child into account.
That part is important: this part is even more important: at the very first
indication of anything that might be viral disease, increase your Vitamin C
immediately. DO NOT WAIT TO SEE IF THINGS GET WORSE! INCREASE YOUR VITAMIN C
TO YOUR NEW BOWEL TOLERANCE LEVEL. That level might be very, very high.
Vitamin C is not toxic. Unlike drugs, which poison enzymes and are thus
capable of severe toxicity, nutrients, especially water soluble ones like
Vitamin C, have no meaningful level of toxicity. Your body knows what you
need. Pay close attention to it.
In the event that you think you may have the flu, take the amino acids
l-lysine, l-proline and l-glycine. An average size adult can take up to 3
grams of each one 4 times a day since they help prevent the spread of the
virus in your body.
My personal regimen for immune health includes high dose Vitamin C and
Vitamins A and E along with zinc and L-Glutathione:
I travel with Olive Leaf Extract, Oil of Oregano (not to be taken by pregnant
women since it can cause abortions), goldenseal, Echinacea, curcumin (from
turmeric), probiotics, B complex, fish oil and alpha lipoic acid. I drink
organic green tea and I do not eat any sugar whatsoever.
If you do become ill, the best thing you can do is contact a physician who
practices natural and nutritional medicine and begin a regimen of Intravenous
Vitamin C treatments (you may need between 100 and 200 grams (not milligrams)
for a short time since the Avian Flu is so good at using up your urgently
needed Vitamin C.
Here’s what not to do:
Do not take Tamiflu (oseltamivir). The widely touted antiviral drug (like its
cousin Relenza or zanamivir) produced drug resistant viruses in 18% of
children treated with the drug and a drug resistant strain has been found in a
Vietnamese girl treated with the drug. A drug resistant strain would be a far more dangerous virus than one which had not learned how to evade the drug’s effect. Viruses can not become resistant to Vitamin C.
Do not take FluMist
FluMist is a live virus vaccine which introduces between 10 and 100 million
viruses into the nose. Those viruses are not the same as the Avian Flu and
therefore do not confer immunity against it since only the identical virus
could do that. FluMist is based on last years viruses which were not effective
against last year’s viruses. They are certainly not effective against the
Avian Flu virus which has not yet become infective to humans so no vaccine
exists against it in its infective form.
Flu Vaccines for a pandemic version of the Avian Flu do not exist. The only
way to make a vaccine against a particular virus is to have the virus
available and then make a toxic brew filled with poisons (mercury, aluminum,
squalene), foreign particles (egg, chick, and other proteins) and contaminants
(stealth viruses, etc.)That flu virus does not yet exist, we are told.
Assuming that it is not already manufactured and waiting for release in a lab
somewhere, it would be 6 months before an Avian Flu vaccine could be ready.
Vaccination with anything else would not help a bit with the Avian Flu strain
which we are supposedly facing disaster from.
Again all of the above are for educational purposes only. I make no claims about curing anything. These are suggestions that have come to me that I feel are worth consideration. We do not diagnose, treat or cure any disease. There is a host of information on many diseases, what causes them and how to alleviate them at www.drclarkuniversity.org or www.drhuldaclark.org

A Short History of Yoga
The original meaning of the word ‘yoga’ was not limited to the asanas or postures that are synonymous with Yoga in the West. The word yoga itself means union, and yoga was taken to mean any path which led the spiritual seeker to union with his highest Self, or union of the individual soul with the Universal Soul. In this sense, Yoga can trace its origins far back to the dawn of spirituality, to the time of the ancient Vedic seers, and possibly even before.
Over time, different yogic paths evolved reflecting the different types of human temperament. In the Bhagavad Gita, India’s most famous scriptural work, three main types of yoga were described:
Bhakti Yoga was for people whose natural spiritual tendency was to approach the Highest through love and worship. In India, Lord Krishna was a central focus for those following bhakti yoga, and the popularity of this path grew in the 15th and 16th centuries through the life and example of such great figures as Sri Chaitanya, Mirabai, and Kabir. This kind of yoga is probably most familiar to us in the West as the approach to God used in Christianity. Jnana Yoga: the path of knowledge, through studying books and scriptures, but more importantly through self-introspection. One famous 20th century jnana yogi, Ramana Maharshi, would commonly ask those seeking his guidance to contemplate on one simple question ‘Who am I?’. The Buddha was also a jnana yogiKarma Yoga is for those who wish to make progress through staying in the world; it tells us to act selflessly, without attachment to the results of our actions. It means seeing and serving God in humanity; a familiar example would be the work of Mother Teresa. The meaning we in the West give to Yoga today stems from the Yoga Sutras, which were written around 200AD by Patanjali and are generally considered to be the classic description of yoga. This text is looked upon as one of the six darshanas, or branches of traditional Indian philosophy. In this text, Patanjali describes an integral system of living called Raja Yoga, which included as one of its components a series of physical postures called asanas. In the West, the term yoga is generally taken to mean the practice of these asanas, which in addition to giving a sense of wellbeing, were also meant to prepare the body to be able to sit for long hours in meditation and contemplation.
A very influential text in the spread of these asanas was the Hatha-Yoga-Pradipika, written in the 14th century by Svatmarama. Hatha Yoga is a broad term usually used to describe the physical postures and breathing (pranayama). In the 16th and 17th century, this kind of yoga grew in popularity and was strongly influenced by Tantric principles.
The spread of yoga in the West can be partly attributed to such spiritual figures as Swami Vivekananda and Paramhansa Yogananda, who first awakened the interest of Western seekers in Eastern philosophy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with their expositions of jnana, bhakti and karma yoga. the promotion of Hatha Yoga in the 1920’s by T. Krishnamacharya and the work of his students B.K.S Iyengar, T.K.V Desikachar and Pattabhi Jois have had a profound influence in shaping the yoga performed in today’s yoga studios. The physical postures of Hatha Yoga found popularity with people in the West who were seeking physical and emotional balance rather than full-fledged enlightenment, and many styles evolved as individual teachers emphasised different aspects of the practice. For example, Iyengar Yoga emphasises precise alignment in the posture work, whereas Ashtanga Yoga concentrates more on strength and agility.

How to Whiten Your Teeth At Home – An Easy Guide
Are you looking to get a glorious white smile but are are constrained by a tight budget? Then do-it-yourself teeth whitening could be for you. Smokers, coffee and tea drinkers, even grandparents can use these home treatments to blast heavy stains off their teeth. Interested? Here are the answers to all your questions along with a recipe for best tooth whitening at home.
Can I really whiten my own teeth inexpensively?
You certainly can. And you can get that pearly smile back by just using items normally found in your kitchen or medicine chest. Things like baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, cups, bowls, and spoons are all you need.
So how do I get started?
First you need to make a tooth whitening paste. To do this, mix two or three teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide and two teaspoons of baking soda in a small bowl. You should aim for paste with the thickness and consistency of toothpaste. To improve the unpleasant taste of peroxide, you can add some mint or just blend in some toothpaste.
So how do I use my new paste?
Apply the paste over your teeth with a toothbrush and leave the mixture on your teeth for several minutes. Do not swallow the paste. If you should accidentally ingest some, wash it down with lots of water.
What do I do after that?
Brush your teeth again with your regular toothpaste to wash off the bitter taste of the hydrogen peroxide. And then you’re all done.
Can I use this method if I have any oral problems?
Yes, but if you have gingivitis, cavities, open sores, or other gum problems, the paste may make your gums look pale temporarily.
How frequently should I apply this paste?
You should avoid brushing your teeth with this paste more than once a week.
These ingredients are perfectly safe but you might want to consult your dentist or even a physician before trying out any home-made teeth whitening remedy.

Pre Menstrual Tension
Pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) or pre-menstrual tension (PMT) is common and can affect as many as one in two women. There are four sub-groups of PMS – PMS-A which main symptoms are Anxiety, irritability and insomnia, PMS-C which main symptoms are sugar cravings, increased appetite, headaches and fatigue, PMS-D which main symptoms are Depression, forgetfulness and confusion and PMS-H which main symptoms are fluid retention, weight gain, bloating and breast tenderness.
PMS-A
Starting as much as two weeks before a period and slowly getting worst as the period approaches this is the most common group of symptoms.
A deficiency in B vitamins and magnesium means that the liver is less productive at breaking down oestrogen and an excess starts to build up which upsets the brain chemicals which are thought to be the cause of the PMS–A symptoms of anxiety, irritability and insomnia.
To combat PMS-A symptoms:
• Include in the diet foods that are rich in the B vitamins such as whole grains, oats, soy flour, pasta, meat, seafood, nuts, pulses, yeast extract, eggs, green leafy vegetables, poultry, oily fish, dried fruit, beans, liver, bananas, walnuts and avocado.
• Include in the diet foods rich in magnesium such as nuts, green leafy vegetables, egg yolk, peas, whole grain cereals, soy beans, seafood, seaweed products, meat and bananas.
• Constipation can cause the retention of excess oestrogen; avoid constipation by eating a high fibre diet and drinking plenty of fluids. Dietary fibre can be found in whole grain cereals, seeds, nuts, root vegetables, fruits and in supplement form – bran, psyllium seed, linseed and ispaghula husks. Fluids can be taken as mineral water, fruit juices and herbal teas.
• If symptoms are very severe then supplements of B vitamins and magnesium should be taken.
PMS-C
Many women find that a week before their period starts they have a craving for carbohydrates especially chocolate and sweets. These cravings are due to low blood sugar levels thought to be produced by low progesterone and high oestrogen levels.
Consuming chocolates and sweets is a temporary measure, these will raise the blood sugar level which will result in the eliminating the cravings but only for a few hours and then the cravings come back and start all over again. The body releases adrenaline to raise low blood sugar levels, these produce side effects of shaking, pounding heart and sweating.
To combat PMS-C symptoms:
• Eat little and often, six little meals during the day instead of three.
• Avoid alcohol, sweets and chocolates as these will in the long run lower blood sugar levels.
• To keep a more stable blood sugar level and to stop the levels dropping to sharply, eat plenty of high fibre foods such as whole grain cereals, seeds, nuts, root vegetables, fruits and take in supplement form any of the following – bran, psyllium seed, linseed and ispaghula husks.
• Consume large amounts of magnesium food such as nuts, green leafy vegetables, egg yolk, peas, whole grain cereals, soy beans, seafood, seaweed products, meat and bananas.
• To ease the symptoms of a shaking and pounding heart cut down on caffeine beverages such as tea and coffee and other stimulants such as smoking.
• Research has shown that Chromium influence blood sugar levels. Consume foods that are rich in chromium such as mushrooms, egg yolk, cheese, fruit and fruit juices, honey, vegetables, black pepper, thyme, red meat, chicken, shrimps and whole grain cereals.
PMS-D
Often, a few days before a period starts, depression sets in normally followed by anxiety symptoms. The depression is caused by the upset of brain chemicals caused by the low estrogen levels.
To combat PMS-C symptoms:
• Eat plenty of foods rich in vitamin B6 such as liver, whole grains, meat, oily fish, soy products, nuts especially walnuts, bananas, green leafy vegetables, avocado, egg yolk, wheat bran, wheat germ, kidney, cantaloupe and cabbage.
• Consume plenty of foods rich in vitamin B3 such as liver, lean meat, whole wheat products, oily fish, eggs, roasted peanuts, poultry, avocados, dates, figs and prunes. Foods rich in zinc, magnesium and iron are also beneficial as they help the body excrete lead which has been linked to blocking the effects of oestrogen. Foods rich in zinc are red meat, seafood, whole grains, offal, pulses, eggs, cheese, brewer’s yeast, pumpkin seeds and ground mustard. Foods rich in magnesium are figs, lemons, grapefruit, corn, almonds, nuts, seeds, dark green vegetables, apples, soy beans, seafood, seaweed products, meat and eggs. Foods rich in iron are shellfish, red meats, sardines, wheat germ, wholemeal bread, egg yolk, green vegetables, dried fruit, pork liver, beef kidney, oysters, nuts, beans, asparagus and oatmeal.
• Counseling or psychiatric help may be needed in severe cases of depression and anxiety.
PMS-H
The brain chemicals become affected when oestrogen levels are high and progesterone levels are too low, one of these brain chemicals increases levels of a hormone called aldosterone. Aldosterone controls the amount of water and salt the adrenal glands produce and the amount the kidneys retain.
Bloating and weight gain occurs when the body retains too much salt and water when there is an excess amount of Aldosterone.
• Avoid refined carbohydrates such as whit bread and flour and eat a diet rich in fibre. High fibre foods are whole grain cereals, seeds, nuts, root vegetables, fruits and fibre supplements are bran, psyllium seed, linseed and ispaghula husks.
• Salt encourages water retention so it needs to be cut out, use plenty of herbs instead to give flavour.
• Avoid salty foods such as salted peanuts and crisps.
• Consume large amounts of mineral water. Water in fact acts as a diuretic which increases the amount of urine the kidneys produce thus riding the body of salt and water. It does not increase bloating.
• Mild diuretics such as watermelon, cucumber, chamomile, thyme, parley and raspberry leaf tea and herbal diuretics can relive bloating.
• Bloating can also be relived by vitamin B6, foods rich in vitamin B6 are liver, whole grains, meat, oily fish, soy products, nuts especially walnuts, bananas, green leafy vegetables, avocado, egg yolk, wheat bran, wheat germ, kidney, cantaloupe and cabbage.
The following supplements may help if you are suffering from PMS/PMT.
Vitamin B6 – start off with one 40mg tablet after an evening meal, if this is not sufficient try 50mg tablet twice daily in the next menstrual cycle. This still does not help then increase up to 200 mg daily dose in each menstrual cycle. Extra vitamin B6 is needed if the patient is a smoker, on the pill or drinks alcohol regularly.
The tablets should be taken three days before the onset of PMS symptoms and stopped two days into the period. Do not take over 200mg of vitamin B6 daily as side effects may occur.
Vitamin B complex – to be taken daily following the instructions on the pack.
Magnesium – to be taken daily following the instructions on the pack.
Zinc – 30 – 50 mg daily for 3 months then 15 mg daily as maintenance
Evening primrose oil – Evening primrose oil is very good at relieving premenstrual breast pain, Evening primrose oil is available on NHS prescription for the treatment of sore breasts. Take a capsule with or after food.
Vitamin E – to be taken daily following the instructions on the pack. Some women find that vitamin E supplements are helpful, particularly for PMS–D symptoms.
Other therapies a woman suffering from PMS symptoms may want to try are Herbalism, Chinese medicine, Aromatherapy, Homeopathy and acupuncture.

Diabetic Children’s Camps
As any sufferer knows, there are two types of Diabetes, type I and type II. The latter is sometimes called adult onset diabetes, and over 90% of diabetics suffer this type.
It therefore takes no great leap of imagination to realize that the vast majority of diabetics are adults. But children can also suffer from diabetes, and for such kids, there are problems to face that are very different to those of their diabetic seniors.
For example, a child with diabetes will obviously need close monitoring, and a great deal of constant care and attention from parents. This in itself is not a problem, but it may mean that the child may never spend a night away from home, and it is not uncommon in these circumstances for a child to have never met another child of their own age with diabetes. Effectively, this is a very isolating period in a diabetic child’s life.
For theses reasons, many countries are now establishing special camps for diabetic children, to address these problems, by bringing a higher degree of normality to the life of diabetic children. Such camps provide 24 hour professional medical supervision and care to all the children, and are an extremely effective way to give young people living with diabetes a chance to be independent and learn about their condition with the support of their peers and trained health professionals.
They provide an enjoyable and safe camping experience in a supervised environment, and often focus, at least to some degree, on increasing the children’s ability to manage their own condition. Such camping conditions also create an environment which allows the interaction between young people with diabetes that may otherwise be denied through geographic isolation.
These diabetes education and recreational camps are, of course, designed to be fun as well as educational. Generally, they will offer a wide range of sporting facilities, which allow participants to try out new sports and other recreational activities, particularly team based activities, that they may often be otherwise denied.
On the medical side, nothing is left to chance. Prior to camp, each participant is normally required to supply a detailed medical history and an indication of the management skills of the child. Based on this knowledge, the camp can then offer the child the opportunity to learn further self management skills and how to interact with other young people with diabetes under professional supervision.
Other people benefit too. Often, many of the “helpers” in such camps are volunteers, with little first hand knowledge of diabetes, and these people will learn a great deal from their exposure on a day to day basis to the children.
Even the health care professionals themselves can gain a valuable insight into the management and lifestyle of young people with diabetes that no textbook can provide. These people usually report that they do learn a lot, and even the most experienced educators say they are moved by the realities of living day to day with these children
And, last but by no means least, the parents enjoy a break from the daily routine of caring for a young person with diabetes, with the real likelihood that their child will gain confidence and increase their self management skills.
